INVISIBLE CHILDREN
Invisible Children are singularly focused on the Lord’s Resistance Army conflict and the effects it has had on child soldiers and children as a whole. Invisible Children operates in Uganda and areas surrounding the country that have been affected by the conflict with the LRA. The organization uses a four-part model that is used to address the problem in its entirety, including immediate needs and long-term ones. Their four-part model is made up of the media, mobilization, protection, and recovery. They make films that document atrocities, reach out to new people, and aim to inspire action. Then mobilization involves getting massive groups of people to support and advance efforts to end the conflict.
To protect the children and citizens, the organization works with regional partners to grow their warning system and tries to convince members of the LRA to surrender peacefully. And last but not least, in recovery, the organization works to rehabilitate the children directly affected by the LRA and heavily invest and support education and economic recovery programs in the region. Invisible Children is a widespread organization with staff working in Gulu, Uganda, San Diego, CA, and Dungu, DRC.
According to charitynavigator.com, in the June 2013 report, Invisible Children’s revenue stood at $4,940,646 with almost all of the money coming from contributions, gifts, and grants and a small portion coming from “other revenue”. Of the organization’s expenses, 77.1% is dedicated to programs ($11,916,500), 4% is dedicated to fundraising ($620,152), and 18.9% is dedicated to administrative services ($2,918,811). The largest difference in spending from SOS Children’s Village comes from the fact that Invisible Children’s deficit for the year was $-10,514,817.
